Connect your bank (Stripe onboarding)
What Stripe asks for, how long it takes, the four onboarding statuses, what "requirements due" means, and what happens when charging is disabled.
Connect your bank (Stripe onboarding)
Biz Invoice Pay processes payments through Stripe. To receive payouts, you complete Stripe's onboarding once — it connects your identity and your bank account to Stripe's platform. Biz Invoice Pay never sees your bank account number or tax ID.
What Stripe asks for
Exact requirements depend on your business type, country (US), and how much you process, but Stripe typically asks for:
- Personal identity — full legal name, date of birth, home address, and the last four digits of your SSN (full SSN or EIN for some business types).
- Business details — business name, business type (sole proprietor, LLC, corporation), and business address.
- Bank account — US checking account (routing + account number) where payouts land.
- Supporting documents if automated verification fails — for example a photo ID or a bank statement.
Enter this information only on Stripe's own hosted onboarding pages (or the mock onboarding page in dev mode, which is clearly labeled and collects nothing). Biz Invoice Pay support will never ask you for bank account numbers, SSNs, or full card numbers.
Statuses
Your onboarding status is shown in Settings → Payouts:
| Status | Meaning | Can charge? |
|---|---|---|
not started | You haven't opened Stripe onboarding yet. | No |
in progress | You started but haven't finished all requirements. | No |
restricted | Stripe found a problem — usually requirements due or disabled charging. | No (or limited) |
enabled | Verification passed; charging and payouts are on. | Yes |
"Requirements due"
Sometimes Stripe needs one more thing after you thought you were done — an expired ID, a clearer document photo, or a missing field. These appear as requirements due on your dashboard with a direct link back to the Stripe page that collects them. Complete them there; your status updates automatically when Stripe re-checks.
When charging is disabled
While charging is disabled you can still:
- Create and draft invoices
- Add customers and team members
- Explore reports, settings, and the API (test keys only)
You cannot charge cards, send pay-page links that accept payment, or receive payouts. The dashboard shows a banner with the exact next step.
Stripe Express dashboard
Once enabled, you can open the Stripe Express dashboard (linked from Settings → Payouts) to see payout history, update your bank account, and view tax documents. Payouts always go to the bank account on file — Biz Invoice Pay cannot redirect them.
How long does it take?
For most US sole proprietors and small businesses, automated verification completes in minutes. If Stripe needs manual document review, it can take a few business days. If your status stays in progress or restricted longer than that, check the requirements list first — it almost always names the missing item.
