Plain definitions for application fee, payout, dispute, connected account, idempotency, and other Biz Invoice Pay terms.

Glossary

Application fee The 4.9% + 30¢ Biz Invoice Pay earns on each successful card payment. It's computed server-side on every payment and shown separately from the net you receive. On a refund, the current fee-on-refund policy decides how much of it comes back.

Charge Taking a card payment in person through the dashboard's Charge screen — key in an amount, enter the card on the secure form, done. Staff can charge without seeing payouts or reports.

Connected account Your Stripe account, connected through Stripe onboarding. It holds your identity and bank details so Stripe can pay you out. Biz Invoice Pay never sees your full bank account number.

Dispute (chargeback) A customer's bank reverses a charge and asks for proof it was legitimate. You respond with evidence in Disputes; the lifecycle is needs_response → under_review → won / lost. See Payments, fees, and refunds.

Hosted pay page The secure Biz Invoice Pay-hosted page (/checkout/[id]) where customers enter card details. Created via payment sessions, payment links, or invoices — you never handle card numbers.

Idempotency The property that retrying an operation has the same effect as doing it once. The API supports it via the Idempotency-Key header; your webhook handlers should be idempotent on the event id too.

Invoice A numbered bill you send a customer. Statuses: draft → open → paid, with void and uncollectible as terminal alternatives. Overdue is derived from the due date, never stored.

Payment link A hosted pay page for a fixed amount with no invoice attached — good for deposits, tips, or quick sales. Shareable as a link or QR code.

Payment session An API-created checkout session (POST /api/v1/payment-sessions) with an id, URL, status, and expiry. The session becomes a payment when the customer pays.

Payout A transfer of your available balance to your bank account, executed by Stripe. Statuses: pending → in_transit → paid, or failed (usually wrong bank details — fixed in Stripe Express).

Refund Money returned to the customer's original card. Full refunds mark the payment refunded; partial refunds mark it partially_refunded and accumulate in refunded_cents. The fee refund follows the platform's fee-on-refund policy.

Webhook An HTTP POST Biz Invoice Pay sends to your server when something happens (e.g. payment.succeeded), signed with HMAC so you can verify it's genuine. See Webhooks.
